It's that time – that time when I'm far enough along in my pregnancy that everyone starts bugging me about packing my hospital bag. Last time around, I did a pretty good job of not over or under packing and I feel like this time, I'm even better prepared to pack only what's needed. So, without further adieu, here's my hospital bag for my second pregnancy and delivery (please keep in mind that I am low-maintenance and planning on a vaginal birth, breastfeeding, and going home the same day):

For Me (in a small tote bag):

For The Boy (in a small backpack):

  • Admission paperwork
  • Contact list (people to call after Baby Voldemort is born)
  • Wallet (with IDs and cash/coins for vending machines)
  • Cell phone (with wireless charger)
  • iPod (head phones and charger)
  • Tablet (with charger)
  • (2) Sets of clothes
  • Travel size toiletries
  • Pillow + blanket
  • Mini cooler with water, fruit pieces, and general snacks (for labor and postpartum stay)

For Baby Voldemort (in the diaper bag):

  • Quilt (I make one for each of my babies)
  • (2) Thin muslin blankets
  • Going home outfit (I pick out something special and then frame it in a shadow box afterwards)
  • (2-3) Onesies or gowns (some hospitals have them for you but pack a couple just in case)
  • (1) Hat (in case the hospital one gets icky)
  • (3) Socks
  • (2) Mittens
  • Boppy Pillow (I loved mine for breastfeeding and just general baby holding)
  • Car seat (already installed in car)

Things you DO NOT need:

  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Baby nail clippers
  • Washcloths
  • Formula
  • Pacifiers
  • Special clothes for labor and delivery
  • Pads
  • Nipple pads
  • Breast pump

The hospital has all these things for you and it's built into the cost of your stay so USE THEIR STUFF. And the fancy birthin' clothes? Bitch, PLEASE. You know that shit just gets poop/pee/blood all over it and then you'll be the one washing it. WEAR THEIR STUFF.
